Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree. 3-5 years experience with managing metadata in a content management system, preferably with experience in original cataloging or indexing. Candidates with news production or media archiving experience desired, especially in a digital environment. Familiarity with CNN newsroom systems such as iNews and Mediasource desired. Candidates must have proven computer proficiency, superior organizational skills, attention to detail, excellent current events awareness, flexibility in scheduling, and an ability to work quickly under tight deadlines.
Duties: Using editorial judgment and knowledge of CNN Archive policies, the Selections Archivist reviews, evaluates and selects video to archive from content acquired and produced daily across all CNN networks. Ensures existing metadata is correct and conforms to consistent style, and supplements metadata with accurate locators, keywords and restriction information. Uses systems such as iNews, CNN Search, MediaSource, NewsDesk, and MIRA to research and supplement video information. Indexes video using keywords from MIRA controlled vocabulary, adding new keywords to the vocabulary as appropriate. Creates keyword groups to apply relevant keywords consistently to stories and to support quick and accurate retrieval from the Library’s online video catalog. Handles an often heavy workload on a tight deadline. Related duties as assigned. As CNN is a 24×7 news operation, schedules include non-traditional hours, including weekend and holiday shifts.
